ANIMAL MOVEMENT is a dynamic practice based on the primitive movements and imitations of animals which contributes to the improvement of strength, the development of endurance, dexterity, balance and agility. Coordination of movements combined with speed contributes to the connection of the nervous system while at the same time slow isometric movements support and strengthen the nervous system.
On the weekend of March 18-19, we will do an introduction to animal movement techniques, we will see the basic positions and their transitions, we will create flows and finally we will integrate this knowledge into a combined flow of animal movement and yoga. We will explore how to use each movement, and how to compose your own flow.

Christina Skarmoutsou
Christina, after studying marketing, costume design, interior design and working in this field, chose to dedicate her energy to the transmission of yoga knowledge with the motivation to share with other people the benefits she experienced as a practitioner.
Thus, in 2016 she completed the first 200-hour Hatha Yoga teacher training with Andreas Proveleggios and began the teaching journey that continues to this day with joy and creativity.
She continued to train alongside notable teachers with the aim of both deepening the philosophy and techniques of yoga, as well as specializing in topics such as orthopedic and musculoskeletal diseases (Raja Yoga 300hr with Andreas Proveleggio, Biomechanics and Yoga with Tina Zymaraki, Yoga Anatomy at Yoga International).
Over the years, she wanted to enrich her knowledge about the body, movement and healing through it. She was trained and certified in Animal Movement by Panos Theodorou and in Aerial Yoga by Grafts.
Her lessons have variety, flow and harmony.

    Thai yoga massage
What is a Thai yoga massage? Where does it come from? Who can practice it and in what cases? Questions that take hundreds of words to explain. But according to the experience of experts, the best way to answer them and perceive them, understand them is through the experiential way.
This is exactly what we will do in beautiful Syros, in four weekends. A seminar, based on the principles of Thai yoga massage. The qualities of acceptance, selflessness, empathy, and compassion. Intended to teach, or remind those with experience, a complete full body session in the supine, stern side position. By learning and practicing techniques that relieve and unblock accumulated tensions on a physical and energetic level.
The physiology and anatomy of the human body will become our navigator so that you understand as best as possible why we choose to use each technique. In addition, however, the lecturer, in and by his capacity as an osteopath, will introduce you to the marriage of these two therapeutic approaches which is the evolution of Thai massage nowadays.
The seminar is addressed to beginners or those who, seeing a friend, acquaintance, family member, want to touch or “squeeze” them, or to those with experience who want to refresh their knowledge. What is certain is that after this, touching your fellow human beings will never be the same.

    Vangelis Varis
Vangelis Varis was born in Athens, Greece, and for the last 22 years he has lived on the island of Evia. He was introduced to the oriental arts through Tai Chi and Yoga, after that it was easy to flow with the beauty of Thai Yoga massage.
At the Sunshine House he met his first, and very special teacher and mentor, (Krishna) Takis, who has been a strong influence since 2009. Many otherm amazing teachers came on his way and shaped his practice: David Lutt, Arno L’Hermitte, Rosemary Wallach, Felicity Joy, Gabriele Schüers, Pau Castellsague, Itzhak Helman. Always a student, yet with some of them, also an assistant and therapist in their courses since 2012 around Greece and abroad (Vienna, Zurich and more). Other techniques that have greatly influenced him are OsteoThai, Chi Nei Chang, Lomi-Lomi massage, but the craniosacral rhythm has been his greatest passion and talent.
Since 2016, deeply inspired by the scientific western approach of Osteopathy, he has begun a new journey at SICO (Swiss International College of Osteopathy), which has provided him with a unique touch in his treatments and has greatly influenced his teachings. Having successfully completed his five years of study, he has managed to combine all the therapeutic techniques, approaching holistically and uniquely each patient.
Today he maintains his own treatment center, teaches massage seminars in Greece and abroad as well as gives therapeutic sessions.

Introduction to dance (children 6-7 years old)
The age of 6-7 years is the period of all discoveries. The course introduces children to dance through play and is based on a story through which the basic principles of dance are approached. Children learn to relate to music and space, recognize different body parts and enhance their imagination through the joy and pleasure of dance.

      Jazz (Children – Teenagers/Adults)
It is a dance form with roots in the African-American jazz music and the tap dance. The course incorporates elements of modern dance techniques to strengthen the body’s core, study rhythm and precision, as well as movement isolation. In addition, the course aims to the complete harmony of movement with music, as well as to the dance with theatricality, emphasizing on expressiveness and the personal style. It includes exercises and choreographies that combine elements of modern dance and musicals.

      Zumba (adults 50+)
Zumba is a fairly recent type of movement that combines dance with gymnastics. The rhythms are often Latin but not only. The course teaches, among others, the basic steps of merengue, salsa, reggaeton, cumbia, bachata, bhangra, cha cha as well as steps of African dances.
The class is aimed at women and men over 50 who have never taken a dance or fitness class and want to be gently introduced to these rhythms.

      Corine Matheron
Corine is a French dancer and dance teacher. After a long career in classical dance, initially studying with a star of the Bordeaux Opera from the age of 5, and a career as a dancer in Tessa Beaumont’s company in Paris, she decided to pursue a freer style of dance, Jazz. She began her apprenticeship at a dance academy in Paris and went on to study the technique of Matt Mattox, the pioneer of jazz dance in France. She then decided to teach this technique and obtained a university degree in classical and contemporary dance studies, jazz, but also primitive expression, as well as dance psychotherapy, and percussion with dance accompaniment. Completing her studies, she attended a conservatory where she was taught anatomy and physiology of dance, as well as the history of music and dance. Finally, he participated in a seven-month pedagogy internship.
In the beginning, she taught in Paris, where she won first prize from the jury of the animation centers of Paris. She continued her career in Nice, where she taught jazz and Cuban salsa.
In recent years, she has been running a dance association in central France, where she has taught all age levels. She is also passionate about African, Oriental, and Hip Hop dance, and is a certified Zumba instructor.
Corine recently moved and lives in Syros.

        Performing Arts
        Title of the project: “OVERFLOW”
        Italy / Belgium

        Project description

OVERFLOW is a contemporary dance and physical theater duet, performed by myself and the dancer Anna-Maria Bayon, which addresses adaptation and survival in society.
Particularly struck by the radical, immediate and contradictory nature of current social dynamics, I asked myself “how do bodies survive between increasingly extreme, increasingly unpredictable laws and events?”
The image behind this creation is that of a ‘contemporary shipwreck’. With a choreographic approach that feeds on an overdose of absurd and zany, naive and poetic imagination, it is an extravagant and staggering shipwreck that I wish to explore. The bodies of two women intertwine, support each other, counterbalance each other, adapt and save each other. Extreme, contradictory and insane like the challenges they have to face.
If on the one hand my intention is to explore the power and beauty of a body that adapts, transmutes, fits together, endures and resists to the point of overflowing; on the other hand, I want to give voice to the humanity that runs through it: its need for the other, for empathy and mutual aid.
Body and voice. Imagination and illusion. Control and laughter. Poetry and surprise.
OVERFLOW is an invitation to resilience through a sensitive, confident and creative look at our society.

        SILVIA PEZZAROSSI

I’m an italian contemporary dancer, choreographer and teacher. I’m based in Belgium where I live since several years.
I trained in ballet and contemporary dance in Italy (Zappalà Danza dance school) and Switzerland (ballet junior de Geneve).
Once I arrived in Belgium I started collaborating as a dancer and performer with some local and international artists for dance and circus projects: Keren Rosenberg, Roy Assaf, Lies Serdons, Poetic Punkers collective, Cie Marie Martinez, Lisbeth Gruwez, Dorian Chavez, Krama Dance Company and soon with the circus company Cie des Chaussons Rouges (creation 2023/2024).
I consider myself a curious observer of society and its dynamics.
I am attracted by its resources as well as its contradictions and fragilities. It is from what I live, from what I feel, from what I observe of society that I draw my inspiration to create.

Supported by different Belgian theaters I could make until today three  dance & physical theater creations: Mucyclo, Waiting for the fishes and En attendant que les poissons passent….

All of them share a strong physicality and the use of a performative register that appeals to audience interaction, humour and surprise.
Overflow is my next creation planned for 2024.

Since 2015, I have been developing my own pedagogical practice based on improvisation, DIVE, which is inspired by the principles of Gaga body language (which I studied in Tel Aviv with Ohad Naharin and the Batsheva dancers) but which I extend to a personal research.
DIVE is part of my daily artistic life and I transmit it through classes and workshops in Belgium and abroad (Charleroi Danse, UP circus & performing arts center, Grand Studio/ Nyash dance company, Hybrid Studio/cie bud Blumenthal, Istanbul Fringe festival in Turkey, Dance Days Chania Festival and Kinitira artistic network in Greece).
