Maniac – Opinion Public

Belgium

The worry of order and the meticulous management of each deed and gesture may be virtuous, but what about the mania, if not that it haunts each of us like an irresistible temptation. So many gestures, so many fixed ideas that reassure and frame us, constituting what we believe to be: multiple “I’s” which create confusion about our own identity … An interior struggle, an obsession with precise gestures by a deliberately neutral-gender duo. Harmony, gentleness, opposition: Which facet will have the last word?

SOLILOQUY – Charles Brecard 1024 1024 akropoditi13

SOLILOQUY – Charles Brecard

Vietnam – Canada

A soliloquy is a monologue addressed to oneself, the expression of one’s thoughts out loud. In this solo, the performer meanders through his own ruminations, challenging himself to face his emotions, doubts and worries. While on his introspective journey, he shares the stage with a skeleton symbolizing the last vestiges of his humanity. A waltz between him and the carcass ensues, evoking a stream of confessions, accusations and discourse.
The pessimistic, almost fatalistic tone of the piece is juxtaposed with joy and sincerity, aiming to stimulate imagination and question its propensity for denial. May inertia give way to action

Spain

YOU ARE WATCHING, BUT WHAT DO YOU REALLY SEE?
Scotoma is a dance piece that speaks about attention.
An invitation to reflect on what captures and directs it.
Can we perceive what we overlook and notice what is hidden at first sight?

The piece invites us to observe the encounter of two people immersed in their own world.
They will give each other a chance to discover other perspectives, allowing them to broaden their gaze towards what they didn’t know was there.

But will they really be able to appreciate it or will they end up losing sight of it?

Greece

Two creatures are struggling to exist. Everything shatters and everything is put back together. Τhe world and their bodies reattach in ever-changing combinations.
These creatures do not know if they will eventually dodge what is about to crush them.
Surprisingly they go on and on with their elusive life cycle. After all, the only thing they are left with is survival. Isn’t life a miracle? They may feel so small and terrified sometimes, some other times a bit aggressive. But let’s be honest here, they are completely harmless. If only they could pull this off!

FLUTTER – Vasso Giannakopoulou

Greece

Athens, present, today A man’s home; his most personal and sacred space is transformed into an urban single life myth hideout. Aspects and parts of his character reveal ways and escape routes from his everyday life.

Following the solo performance of a woman who resides at 36 Pythonos St, which was premiered May 2020, a new peephole opens up from the apartment across the street. At 11 Krissis St, the audience becomes the observer of another intermediate space, where the personal becomes public bringing into the spotlight the man that stands before the world yet even more before his own self.

Point perdu – Victor Launay

Through his work Victor leads us to the discovery of the fundamentals of contemporary dance and floorwork. The warm-up is essentially based on the musculature of the body to apprehend the floorwork with fluidity and rapidity. The rest of the class consists of working on the technical elements and their combination into choreographic phrases, as well as movement in space and energy management, to get the contrast and musicality of the movement and different technical movements on the floor. He also works a lot around duets and how to link different acrobatic lifts with fluidity and quietness and without showing difficulty.

The Attentive Act – Clémentine Télesfort & Lisard Tranis 1024 1024 akropoditi13

The Attentive Act – Clémentine Télesfort & Lisard Tranis

Since 2017 Lisard (CAT) and Clémentine (FR) have been developing a shared practice influenced by their encounters and common experiences in leading international companies and projects such as Guy Nader & Maria Campos or Lali Ayguadé Company. From there, they began to share their practice facilitating workshops to movers and professional artists from a wide range background and are regularly invited to lead seminars in professional training institutions and programs internationally. Since 2020 they began co-creating as a company.
The workshop is aimed at people from all disciplines interested in expanding their creative tools and refining their quality of movement both improvising alone or with a partner. We invite the participants to investigate four main aspects we consider essential in our practice as artists: the sensitivity of being, control of restrictions, availability to the unknown, and creative adaptation to challenges.
The class will address movement efficiency and explore the range of creativity given by a better understanding of our movements’ physical boundaries. – Playfulness – will be the main tool for discovery and exploration both in our movement improvisations and in our interactions. We will seek greater awareness of our structure’s patterns through games tackling stability and accuracy helping our decision making both in improvisation and in partner work. We will play with the plasticity of our imagination through physical and creative challenges and use it as a source for instant composition. Training these principles will allow an articulated and expansive movement to be deployed in space.
We are keen to share tools that allow participants to investigate their original movement and challenge their practice beyond technical constraints. We are interested in the quality of the relationships we cultivate with ourselves and others, forming a sensitive and responsive body that can unleash our imagination and support our performance state.

Danae and Dionysios

Danae and Dionysios have been collaborating since 2015. As apprentices of nature, its animals and indigenous civilisations they create stories from the side of the one who was or still is untamed. Ιn their creations they propose harmonic relationships between nature and its living beings, while the dreamlike atmosphere which usually wraps their work becomes a conversation between chaos and order. Trying to balance between accessible and pioneer, they support the idea that art is a universal medium of communication which can create a dynamic yet fragile language. Together, they created their first production “UNCIA”, which has been touring internationally, counting more than 55 performances in 11 countries and has received 8 awards around Europe. Later, they created the full evening show “ATMA”, which has been touring in Europe, Asia and Latin America and “Free At Last”, which was created under the production house of Theater Rotterdam. In 2021, supported by the Athens & Epidaurus Festival, they created a new version of “Free At Last” – “Free At Last : Rerooted” which premiered in Athens, Greece. Their latest production “Valley of the Hummingbirds” was commissioned by Staatstheater Braunschweig and premiered in Germany in February 2022. At the same time, they create projects for postgraduate programs and professional dance schools such as “FRE3 Bodies” in Barcelona, “PERA GAU” in Kyrenia and “EPDCYL” in Burgos, while giving workshops around the world.

The heartbeat in our body creates our own tempo and at the same time our breath creates rhythmic values and dynamics on top of that tempo.

The class focuses on the musicality and teaches us the ways to be aware on how to develop our body’s rhythm and dynamics, concerning it as an instrument by using improvisational tools inspired from the theory of music.
