The deadlines for the applications’ acceptance are:
For the period: January 2027 – June 2027, till November 1st, 2026
For the period: September 2027 – December 2027, till June 1st, 2027

OPERATION PERIODS

The program runs every year from September to June and our premises can host artists for one week up to three weeks.
July: There are no hosts in July due to the International Dance and Performing Arts Festival “Akropoditi DanceFest”.
August: The space in August is only available for rent and can be reserved for any kind of artistic activities upon request.

SPACE DESCRIPTION

The Akropoditi Dance and Performing Arts Centre is housed in two recently renovated buildings, which were built in 1850 and originally operated as a tannery.
The first one is 163 sq.m. and it is used as a Dance Course Studio. The space consists of a dance studio with a wooden floor, a reception area, changing rooms and toilets.
The second building is 180 sq.m. and it consists of 2 levels. The first level serves as a stage for performances, classes and workshops, and as a room for projections, equipped with one projector, projections screen and audio and lighting equipment. There is also a dressing room, a kitchen, a shower and a toilet. In the upper level, there is a library loft, two desks and two beds. The space is used exclusively by guests within the frame of the Artistic Residency program. The two levels are connected by an internal staircase. There is no door in the loft, but the space is separated by curtains. Also, there is no sound isolation between the upper and lower level.

Since April 2013, the Centre has been offering Artistic Residency programs focused on:

  • Performing Arts (Dance, Theatre, etc.)
  • Artistic, educational programs
  • Music
  • Literature
  • Photography

CONDITIONS

Artistic Residency duration:

  • 1 week

  • 3 weeks

Number of artists that can be accommodated at the same time: 2

Grants available: The program is not subsidized.

However, the invited artists are provided with a formal invitation letter by the Centre, which can be used to seek financial support from embassies, government agencies, private entities, etc.

Costs incurred by the artists:

  • Transportation / travelling expenses
  • Supplies / all kind of personal expenses

Artist’s obligations:

  • Presentation of his/her work upon the end of the stay
  • Workshop or Masterclass during the period of stay

From Athens to Syros:
– By Plane (20 minutes flight)
– By Ferry from the port of Piraeus (about 4 hours)

OPERATING RULES

During their stay, the artists in residence are obliged to:

  • Keep clean the spaces of the Centre
  • Return any items / equipment used during the stay (note: the equipment is used exclusively inside the building and not for outdoor activities)
  • Avoid cooking during classes or other activities of the Centre
  • Follow strictly the schedule of studios use, which is provided upon their arrival at the Akropoditi Dance and Performing Arts Centre.
