Photography Exhibition: STORIES OF OUR LAND

STORIES OF OUR LAND
A creative photography exhibition from Children aged 8 to 13 years old

19 – 22 July 2022
Akropoditi Dance & Performing Arts Centre
10:00-14:00 & 18:00-20:00

A creative photography exhibition that invites us to get to know the island and story of Syros through the eyes of children from their own personal view of its history.
The photos and stories of the exhibition are the harvest of the experiential/interactive workshop of Creative Photography and Kinetic Improvisation, ‘Stories of our Land’, held in January/February 2022, in collaboration with the choreographer Anna Daskalou, co-organized with the Akropoditi Dance Center and funded by the Ministry of Culture . The seminar was created from the combined ideas of the fusion of dance and photography and the indigenous stories that live in the Cycladic archipelago while they move the children’s hearts.
The inspiration behind the exhibition was the multifaceted history of the island and it’s port, a mosaic of different cultures from Greece, Europe and the East. The installation of the photographs was based on the idea of a puzzle/mosaic, an allegory of the island’s history that is a mosaic of cultures/cultural influences in the single form that Syros is still, today. Each photo-story/canvas is also a tile, with which the students danced: the winged Hermes, the founding of Ermoupolis by the first settlers, the time machine from 1900, the walks in the Town Hall and Poseidonia together with imaginary friends in secret gardens and underground galleries.

The event is finished.
